Jean-Philippe Lauer (1902-2001)

Lauer first came to Egypt in 1926 to advise Firth on restoration work at the Step Pyramid of Saqqara. This decided the rest of his career, since Lauer would spend the next 75 years of his life in the service of the Egyptian Antiquities Service, exploring and reconstituting the Step Pyramid complex. Lauer wrote several books on the pyramids and collaborated in the French project for the study of all Saqqara pyramids and the reconstruction of the Pyramid Texts.
