Nico Staring

Nico Staring studied Egyptology and Archaeology at Leiden University, where he also lectured in Egyptian archaeology. He obtained his PhD at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, with a thesis on the Saqqara New Kingdom necropolis. This study explores various historical, archaeological, prosopographical and iconographical issues related to the city of Memphis and its necropolis. Nico has worked at various excavations in The Netherlands, Malawi, Sudan, and Egypt: Wadi Natrun, Tell Edfu, and Fustat. He has been a regular team member of the Leiden mission at Saqqara since 2007.
